Bobby Berk, the interior designer extraordinaire from Queer Eye, bid farewell to the show after Season 8, sparking speculation and online gossip about the reasons behind his departure. The 42-year-old announced his exit on social media in November 2023, expressing gratitude to viewers and promising new projects in the future. Despite reports of tension among the Fab 5 cast members, Bobby shed light on the real reasons behind his decision to leave in an interview with Vanity Fair.
According to the interview, the cast initially signed on for seven cycles, which eventually became eight seasons. By the time Season 8 wrapped in September 2022, Bobby had started planning his post-Queer Eye life, assuming the show was done. However, Netflix renewed the series for four more cycles due to the 2023 Writers and Actors’ strikes, creating a conflict for Berk, who had already committed to other projects. When Netflix was able to convince the rest of the Fab 5 to return, Bobby chose not to sign on for the additional seasons.
The fallout between Bobby and Tan France from Queer Eye was acknowledged by Berk in the interview. While Karamo, Jonathan, and Antoni expressed love and support for Bobby on social media, stylist Tan France, who does not follow Bobby on Instagram, was noticeably absent. Bobby described a personal moment between him and Tan that had been brewing, emphasizing that it was not related to the show or romantic. Despite the tension, Bobby considered their relationship similar to siblings, acknowledging that siblings often have conflicts.
As for Bobby’s future, he has teased exciting ventures on TikTok and reassured fans that a Bobby-centered show is in the works. He has also revealed that he is splitting his time between the U.S. and Portugal, where he recently moved with his husband Dewey Do. Fans are eagerly anticipating Bobby’s upcoming projects and the potential for a reunion tour when the Fab 5 comes back together in the future.
