Apple is finally getting serious about foldable phones. Reports suggest the company’s first foldable iPhone could launch in September 2026. The device is expected to arrive alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

The phone is being referred to as the iPhone Fold for now. While Apple has not confirmed anything, supply chain sources are starting to agree on key details. The biggest focus is on performance, display size, and materials.

iPhone fold chipset and performance details

The foldable iPhone is expected to run on Apple’s A20 Pro chip. This chip may be built using a 2nm process. If true, it would be Apple’s most advanced chip ever.

The same processor is expected to power the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. This suggests Apple does not plan to compromise on performance for the foldable model.

The phone may also use Apple’s second generation C2 modem. This modem is designed in house and could improve network efficiency and battery usage.

iPhone fold design, display, and camera expectations

Apple is said to be working with a mix of titanium and aluminium for the body. This could help keep the phone strong without making it too heavy.

The inner folding display is expected to measure 7.8 inches. The outer cover screen could be around 5.3 inches. This would make it closer to a small tablet when opened.

Interestingly, the foldable iPhone may skip Face ID. Instead, Apple could bring back Touch ID. This would be a big shift for modern iPhones.

On the camera side, the phone is expected to feature two rear cameras. Both may be 48MP sensors. One for regular photos and one for ultra wide shots.

Selfies and video calls may be handled by two front cameras. One on the outer screen. One inside. Both are expected to be 18MP.

While the camera hardware may be similar to the iPhone 18 Pro, some advanced features could be missing. The foldable model may not get variable aperture support.

Apple is clearly taking its time. The company seems focused on getting the basics right before entering the foldable market. If these details hold true, the iPhone Fold could be one of Apple’s biggest design changes in years.
