A 26-year-old employee of biopharmaceutical company Biocon was found dead on the company’s Bengaluru campus on Tuesday, prompting a police investigation into the incident.
The deceased has been identified as S Anantha Kumar, an engineering graduate who worked in the finance department of Biocon Biologics Limited. His body was found on the company premises located on Hosur Road in Electronics City Phase II, Bengaluru. Preliminary information suggests that Kumar fell from the fifth floor of the company building.
According to police officials, the incident occurred around 5 pm. Kumar was reportedly speaking on his mobile phone before he went to the cafeteria terrace located on the fifth floor. Shortly thereafter, he fell from the building. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Kumar was a resident of Banashankari, Bengaluru. His father, Srinath, is a temple priest. No suicide note was recovered from the scene, and the exact circumstances leading to his death are yet to be determined.
An investigating officer stated that CCTV footage and other evidence are being examined as part of the probe. “The canteen is on the fifth floor. He was seen talking on the phone and then went to the terrace. We did not find any death note. He was shifted to a hospital where he was declared dead,” the officer said.
Biocon, in a statement, expressed condolences to the family and said it was cooperating with the authorities. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our employees in Bengaluru. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the family during this extremely difficult time. As the matter is under investigation, we are unable to share further details at this stage,” the company said.
A case has been registered at the Parappana Agrahara Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
