In a move to promote cleanliness across India’s national highways, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a new initiative that lets travellers earn ₹1,000 in FASTag recharge by reporting unclean toilets at toll plazas.
How to participate
As part of the “Clean Toilet Picture Challenge” under the Special Campaign 5.0, commuters can upload geo-tagged and time-stamped photos of unhygienic toilets using the RajmargYatra app. Participants must include their name, location, vehicle registration number, and mobile number while submitting the report.
If verified, the complaint will earn a ₹1,000 reward, credited directly to the FASTag account linked with the vehicle. The credit cannot be withdrawn or transferred. The initiative will remain active until October 31, 2025, covering all national highways managed by NHAI.
Eligibility and verification
The reward applies only to toilets maintained by NHAI, excluding those at fuel pumps, dhabas, or private facilities. Each vehicle can claim the incentive only once during the campaign period, and each toilet can be rewarded once a day, even if multiple complaints are received.
All submissions will undergo AI-assisted screening and manual verification to ensure authenticity. Only the first valid photo submission per location per day will qualify for the reward.
A part of the highway cleanliness mission
This initiative is part of NHAI’s broader plan to improve sanitation, transparency, and road user experience across the country. Alongside toilet upkeep, the campaign includes beautification of toll plazas, pothole repairs, and other infrastructure improvements.
