Hindalco Industries Limited, the metals flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, has reported a fire incident at its subsidiary Novelis’ manufacturing plant in Oswego, New York. The fire broke out late on September 16, 2025, at around 10 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (September 17, 7:30 a.m. IST) and was communicated to Hindalco the following day at 10:05 p.m. IST.
According to the company’s disclosure, firefighting efforts were largely completed by 2:00 a.m. EDT on September 17. Importantly, no injuries occurred as a result of the blaze or during the containment process.
Production at the Oswego facility has been temporarily suspended as investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire and evaluate the extent of its impact on operations. Hindalco confirmed that the plant is covered under insurance policies for both property damage and business interruption, subject to deductibles and policy limits.
Novelis is a key subsidiary of Hindalco and is one of the world’s largest producers of flat-rolled aluminum and recyclers of aluminum products.
