Bharat Bijlee Limited on Monday (August 25) announced that its Board of Directors has approved an additional capex of ₹65 crore to enhance the transformer manufacturing capacity at its Airoli Works in Navi Mumbai. The capacity will be expanded from 28,000 MVA to 35,000 MVA.
This follows an earlier approval in May 2024, when the Board cleared a ₹170 crore investment to raise capacity from 18,000 MVA to 28,000 MVA at the same facility. With the fresh expansion, the company is set to add a total of 17,000 MVA capacity in phases, with a combined investment of ₹235 crore.
According to the filing, the project is expected to be completed within 12 months and will be financed entirely through internal accruals. The move is aimed at catering to the rising demand for transformers.
At present, the company’s existing capacity of 18,000 MVA operates at about 80% utilization, highlighting the need for expansion. The latest development positions Bharat Bijlee to strengthen its presence in the power infrastructure segment while meeting growing industry requirements
