Ever since its announcement in 2021, Jee Le Zaraa has been one of the most anticipated films in Bollywood. Billed as the ultimate female-led road trip movie, it promised a powerhouse trio: Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Katrina Kaif, and Alia Bhatt. However, as years have passed without the film going on floors, rumors of a total overhaul – specifically regarding the cast-have reached a fever pitch.
In a recent candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, director Farhan Akhtar finally addressed the uncertainty surrounding the project. Reflecting on the prolonged delay and the production hurdles, Farhan shared a deeply personal perspective on the film’s struggle:
“There is some kind of chaotic design to all of it. I couldn’t write it down and tell you, but it comes from whatever feels right in – that I really must do this. It is going to be an experience that if I don’t do, I will miss… It’s been four and a half years of me as a director trying to put a film together, and for various reasons, one wheel or the other keeps falling off. But, I am excited about wanting to do it. I feel that in some way, the universe is testing me, to see how badly do I want it. So, I am just waiting for that final wheel to be put back in place.”
The primary cause for the delay appears to be the logistical nightmare of aligning the schedules of three of the industry’s busiest stars. While the trio originally shared their excitement for this “sisterhood” project, the synchronized window required for filming has remained elusive.
When directly questioned about whether the film would move forward with a new cast, Farhan remained guarded. He noted that while he doesn’t like keeping secrets, he needs to “catch his breath” and see where his heart lies before making an official announcement. Despite the ambiguity regarding who will eventually take the trip, Farhan’s determination suggests that Jee Le Zaraa is far from parked—it’s just waiting for the right moment to hit the road.
