NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has emerged as the successful bidder in the e-reverse auction conducted by NHPC Limited on May 21, 2025. The bidding was part of NHPC’s initiative to set up standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Kerala under a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism, supported by Viability Gap Funding (VGF).
NGEL secured a total capacity of 80MW/320MWh as part of the competitive bidding process for the development of InSTS-connected standalone BESS infrastructure. The tender was issued for a cumulative capacity of 125MW/500MWh across different substations in the state.
Under this award, NGEL has secured the following two projects:

40MW/160MWh at Pothencode Substation
Tariff: ₹4,57,000 per MW per month -
40MW/160MWh at Sreekantapuram Substation
Tariff: ₹4,34,000 per MW per month
The Letter of Award (LoA) from NHPC is currently awaited.
The projects are expected to contribute to grid stability and renewable energy integration in Kerala. These installations will play a role in energy storage and load balancing as part of broader efforts to enhance the flexibility and resilience of the state’s power system.
