In a major boost to India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities, Mahindra Aerostructures has signed a contract with Airbus to manufacture the fuselage for the H130 helicopters. The project marks a significant milestone in Airbus’ Make in India initiative and underscores the country’s growing role in global aviation supply chains.

Under the agreement, Mahindra Aerostructures — a subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra — will build complete fuselage assemblies for the Airbus H130, a light single-engine helicopter widely used for passenger transport, sightseeing, and emergency medical services. The first fuselage is expected to be delivered in Q1 of 2027.

Airbus reaffirms India commitment

The contract was formally signed at a ceremony held in New Delhi, in the presence of Rémi Maillard, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia. Speaking at the event, Maillard said, “Airbus will continue to invest in India as we scale up our industrial footprint.”

This collaboration not only deepens Airbus’ ties with India but also strengthens the domestic aerospace ecosystem by bringing high-precision manufacturing and assembly work into the country.

Government backs India’s aviation push

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, who was present at the event, emphasized the growing demand in the aviation sector and called for a stronger manufacturing base in India.

“India is destined to become a global aviation hub,” Naidu said, highlighting the importance of such partnerships in realising the government’s long-term vision.
