Now that Kiran Rao, Nitanshi Goel, and the cast of the social comedy-drama have put up their official statements on social media, so has Aamir Khan. This actor-producer has thanked one and all for recognizing his effort and the film it created.
Responding to Laapataa Ladies’s selection, Aamir said, “We are all so happy with the news. I am so proud of Kiran and her entire team. I would like to thank the selection committee of the Film Federation of India, which chose our film to represent India at the Oscars.”

Earlier, Lagaan (2001) and Taare Zameen Par (2007) have also been sent off as India’s official entry from Aamir’s production banner, Aamir Khan Productions. However, Lagaan is the only Indian film to have secured the top five nominations at the 74th Academy Awards in 2002. Laapataa Ladies is the third film coming from Aamir’s home banner that has been selected as India’s official entry for Oscars.
Laapataa Ladies is an epic of two brides in rural India in the year 2001 who somehow exchange seats at some stage during a journey in a train. The main actors are Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta and Sparsh Shrivastav. Other notable appearances have come from Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma.
