Indian equity benchmarks ended lower on April 28, with the Nifty 50 closing at 23,995.70, down 0.40%, while the Sensex declined 0.54% to 76,886.91. Despite the broader weakness, several heavyweight stocks managed to post gains and supported pockets of the market.

Among the top performers, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation emerged as the biggest gainer of the day, closing at ₹302.1, up 5.7%. The stock saw strong buying interest, leading the gainers’ list.

Adani Enterprises followed with a gain of 3.9%, ending at ₹2,413.3. The stock continued to witness positive momentum during the session.

Shares of Coal India rose 3.3% to close at ₹467.4, supported by steady interest in the metal and mining space.

Reliance Industries also featured among the gainers, advancing 2.1% to settle at ₹1,394.0, providing some support to the index given its heavy weightage.

Eternal gained 1.7% to close at ₹259.9, while Nestlé India added 1.7%, ending at ₹1,441.6.

Telecom major Bharti Airtel rose 1.7% to ₹1,851.0, while IT stock Tech Mahindra closed 1.2% higher at ₹1,412.5.

In the metals segment, Tata Steel gained 1.1% to ₹215.6. Meanwhile, pharma major Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories ended 1.0% higher at ₹1,347.4.

Overall, the session reflected selective buying in energy, metals, telecom, and FMCG stocks even as the broader indices remained under pressure.
