The fallout from Donald Trump’s unusual press conference at Mar-a-Lago on August 8 continued to ripple the next day, with notable figures like podcasters Joe Rogan and Tim Pool, and alt-right influencer Nick Fuentes expressing their discontent. They are now predicting that Trump might lose to Kamala Harris.
Former Biden and Obama finance chair Jon Cooper tweeted, “Wow! Just this morning, Trump LOST the support of Joe Rogan, Tim Pool, and Nick Fuentes — all of whom publicly criticized him. Rats abandoning a sinking ship, amirite? #TrumpMeltdown.” To clarify, Rogan was never a Trump supporter and stated he’d vote for RFK Jr., though he later clarified he wasn’t endorsing RFK Jr. but merely expressing some liking. Rogan himself acknowledged, “I’m not the guy to get political information from.”
Tim Pool, who had previously suggested he might vote for RFK Jr., later backtracked and confirmed he would vote for Trump. However, Pool criticized Trump’s advisors, indicating some discontent within MAGA circles. This is similar to how gun-rights advocate Kyle Rittenhouse initially said he wouldn’t vote for Trump but later reversed his stance.
Nick Fuentes, an influential MAGA figure, expressed his disappointment on X, declaring a “Groyper War” against Trump’s campaign. He accused Trump’s campaign of being hijacked by the same consultants and donors he defeated in 2016, leading to a potential disaster. Fuentes’ “Groyper War” refers to his faction of Trump supporters from past campaigns. Despite Fuentes being a controversial figure, his support loss is noteworthy in Trump’s campaign.
Alt-right pundit Laura Loomer also criticized Trump’s team on X, saying, “Have you noticed how weak so many of the Trump surrogates sound on TV? President Trump has much better talent in his arsenal. Time for him to use it instead of letting people who don’t know how to play offense drive his messaging into the ground on TV.”
Trump has only briefly addressed this backlash through a Truth Social post, which targeted Rogan’s comments about RFK Jr. Trump wrote, “It will be interesting to see how loudly Joe Rogan gets BOOED the next time he enters the UFC ring??? MAGA 2024.”
