A 60-year-old watchman was allegedly assaulted and then run over twice by an SUV driver in outer Delhi’s Peeragarhi village on Sunday morning, police said, adding that the entire sequence of events was captured on CCTV cameras installed near the spot.

The deceased has been identified as a local watchman who was on duty in the Peeragarhi area when the incident occurred. According to Delhi Police officials, the elderly man reportedly got into an argument with the SUV driver shortly before the fatal attack.

Police said the accused first physically assaulted the watchman during the confrontation. When the victim attempted to flee from the spot, the driver allegedly chased him with the SUV and deliberately ran over him twice, causing critical injuries that led to his death.

The horrifying incident triggered panic among local residents, many of whom rushed to help the victim after the SUV fled the scene. The injured man was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Investigators said CCTV footage recovered from the area clearly captured the vehicle hitting the victim more than once. Police teams are currently examining the footage frame by frame to establish the exact sequence of events and identify all individuals involved.

A senior police officer said preliminary investigation suggests the attack may have stemmed from a dispute linked to parking or movement of the vehicle near the locality, though the exact motive is still under investigation.

The SUV involved in the incident has reportedly been identified, and multiple police teams have been deployed to trace the accused driver who escaped after the attack. Officials said a murder case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The brutal killing has once again raised concerns over rising incidents of road rage and violent confrontations in the national capital. In recent months, Delhi Police has reported several cases involving assaults linked to parking disputes, reckless driving and local altercations escalating into fatal violence.

Locals in Peeragarhi demanded swift action against the accused and increased police patrolling in the area following the incident. The victim’s body has been sent for postmortem examination while further investigation is underway.
