Connections is the latest puzzle game from the New York Times. In this game, you’re given a grid of 16 words and tasked with sorting them into four groups of four based on how they relate to each other. Each puzzle resets nightly, so you get a fresh challenge every day. Similar to Wordle, you can track your streak and compare your scores with friends.

How to play NYT Connections

In Connections, your goal is to categorize the 16 words into four distinct groups of four. These groups could be related to various themes, such as video game titles, book series, shades of colors, or even types of foods. Some words might fit into more than one category, but there’s only one correct set of groupings for each puzzle.

To help you find these connections, you can shuffle the grid and rearrange the words to see different possible matches. Each group is color-coded based on difficulty: yellow is the easiest to figure out, followed by green, blue, and purple.

To make a guess, select four words and hit Submit. If your selection is correct, those words will be removed from the grid, and the theme for that group will be revealed. If you guess incorrectly, it counts as a mistake. You have up to four mistakes allowed before the game ends.
