An audio recording has been leaked that features Billy Ray Cyrus having a heated argument with his wife, Firerose. In the recording, Cyrus uses harsh language and insults toward Firerose, and also makes a troubling reference to one of his children with the phrase “devil’s a skank.” This outburst occurred during an argument about being late to a Nicki Minaj concert in Tennessee, where Cyrus was supposed to be a special guest. Firerose, a 37-year-old musician formerly known as Johanna Hodges, allegedly recorded the conversation without Cyrus’ knowledge. In the audio, Cyrus tells Firerose to shut up and hurls insults, while Firerose asks him to stop yelling.
In a separate part of the recording, Cyrus refers to himself in the third person and makes a cryptic remark about “the devil’s a skank,” which some speculate might be a reference to his daughter Miley Cyrus. Billy Ray Cyrus has three children with his ex-wife Tish Cyrus, including Miley, and also has adopted children and a son from a previous relationship.
Billy Ray Cyrus’ Response
After the recording was leaked, Cyrus addressed the situation in a statement on Instagram. He expressed that he was at his breaking point and revealed that he had started to see troubling signs about Firerose before learning more about her background. Cyrus claimed he was unaware of Firerose’s past, including her connection to David Hodges, a former member of the band Evanescence, and her previous arrest for felony burglary. He alleged that Firerose was trying to undermine his career and take advantage of the Cyrus name for her own benefit. Cyrus concluded his statement by announcing his intention to take legal action.
Cyrus filed for divorce from Firerose in May 2024, citing “irreconcilable differences” and “inappropriate marital conduct,” including fraudulent credit card charges. Both parties have accused each other of verbal and physical abuse. Firerose has not confirmed whether she leaked the recording.
