Road travel offers an opportunity to explore at your own speed and a personal view of the ever-changing environment, making it a unique journey. Road trips, as opposed to air or rail travel, provide us the freedom to stop anywhere we like and see popular attractions and hidden gems all over entire countries. Here are 5 classic road trips around the World.
1. Ring Road, Iceland
Most of Iceland is connected by the main motorway, known as Route 1 or the Ring Road. The Ring Road is a circle, it bypasses North Iceland, the Westfjords, and the Snaefellsnes peninsula, but on the way, you can stop by the country’s top tourist attractions: Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, Dyrhólaey cliffs and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon
2. Route 66, USA
A classic American highway extends roughly 3,940 kilometres and connects eight states: Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. Route 66, which originated on November 11, 1926, was one of the first highways designated under the United States Numbered Highway System.
3. Furka Pass, Switzerland
Situated 2,431 meters above sea level, the Furka Pass is one of Switzerland’s most well-known Alpine roads. It is a part of the well-known Three-Pass-Ride across the Furka, Grimsel and Susten Pass, connecting Andermatt in the Canton of Uri with Gletsch in the Canton of Valais.
4. Atlantic Road, Norway
Norway’s Atlantic Ocean Road, which was completed in 1989 and spans barely 8.3 km, features exciting roller coaster-like curves and stunning views of the sea. Eight bridges on the route connect many small islands, making for an interesting ride.
5. Milford Road, New Zealand
The journey from Te Ana to Milford Sound is one of the most beautiful routes in the world. Entering the heart of Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area and Fiordland National Park is an incredible experience. The Eglinton Valley, which was once filled with glacier ice, is a beautiful attraction.
