BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and Zayn Malik surprised fans earlier this year with their collaboration, EYES CLOSED. The track marked Jisoo’s first-ever foreign collaboration and Zayn’s debut K-pop project. Fans loved the release, and it even reached No. 72 on the Billboard Hot 100. Zayn recently shared that his daughter played a big role in his decision to work with the BLACKPINK star.

Speaking to BBC Radio 1, Zayn revealed that it was actually Jisoo who reached out to him for the collaboration. They chose a song he had already worked on, which he liked, and after Jisoo recorded her part, he adjusted his vocals to match her style. He praised her and BLACKPINK, saying, “She’s obviously killing at the minute. BLACKPINK are all over the place.”

He also shared a personal reason for saying yes: his daughter is a huge fan. “So when she asked to do the feature, I was like, yeah. My daughter’s gonna think I’m cool again. So I’ll definitely do that,” he explained. He added that returning to pop music with someone dominating the genre right now was “an honor.”

Zayn ended by giving a shoutout to Jisoo, thanking her for the opportunity. Meanwhile, Jisoo is set to release her second solo album next year, with multiple collaborations hinted at in the EYES CLOSED music video. She is also currently on the BLACKPINK Deadline World Tour with her fellow members.
