The fake mustache is staying on. Following the breakout success of the first six episodes in late 2025, Hulu has officially called the play for a second season of the Glen Powell-led comedy. After a cliffhanger finale that saw Russ Holliday’s secret identity teetering on the edge of a total blowout, the “South Georgia Catfish” are returning to the field with a larger cast and higher stakes.

Chad Powers Season 2 Release Date Rumors

While an exact premiere date hasn’t been penciled into the schedule yet, fans won’t have to wait nearly as long as Russ did for his second chance. Showrunner Michael Waldron recently confirmed that production is moving at a brisk pace. During an interview in late April 2026, Waldron explicitly teased a Fall 2026 release window on Hulu. Given that Season 1 premiered on September 30, industry insiders are betting on a similar late September or early October 2026 launch to align with the peak of the real-world football season.

Chad Powers Season 2 Cast Updates

The “Catfish” locker room is getting some major reinforcements for the sophomore season. Alongside the returning core, a wave of guest stars has been confirmed to join the madness:

  • The Returning Stars: Glen Powell (Russ/Chad), Perry Mattfeld (Ricky Hudson), Steve Zahn (Coach Hudson), and Quentin Plair (Coach Byrd) are all locked in.

  • Gillian Jacobs: The Community alum joins as Jerri Dougan, the sister of alternate QB Gerry. She is a dedicated “Catfish fanatic” who suspects Chad’s sudden rise is part of a larger conspiracy against her brother.

  • Colin Woodell: Plays Jay, a wealthy and charismatic alumnus whom Tricia is trying to woo as a major booster for the program.

  • Carey O’Donnell: Joins as Mr. Brent, the head of USG cheerleading.

  • Nate Varrone: Plays Dustin, a man living at the actual West Virginia address Russ used for his “Chad” persona, who finds himself unwittingly dragged into the deception.

What to Expect Next: Potential Plot

Season 2 will pick up the ball exactly where the finale dropped it. After Ricky Hudson officially uncovered Russ’s true identity via his “Holliday” arm tattoo and his Cybertruck, the dynamic between the two has fundamentally shifted.

The upcoming episodes are likely to center on the “Great Lie” expansion, with a “pressure cooker” environment in place for Players to navigate through the chaos, all while keeping the fact that the coach’s daughter knows the truth from the rest of her father’s players. The culmination of this story arc could be the much-anticipated (and first-ever) game against the top-ranked Georgia program. Up until now, the pacing of the show has been too fast, often jumping over several games in the process; however, the creators have indicated that Season 2 will allow Players to finish the games they have participated in on the actual field. More darkness and pathos will also be present when Russ’ dad (the Hollywood makeup artist) has to deal with keeping Russ’ extremely fragile prosthetic mask looking as good as possible in the searing Georgia sun.

According to reports, the series is shifting from being a “limited series” to becoming a multi-season regular series on Hulu. While we will have official trailers sometime in the near future, please note that we cannot confirm all of this until our official trailers have been released.
