Fans who grew up with Home Alone finally have something to look forward to. Macaulay Culkin said he is open to returning as Kevin McCallister in a new sequel. He spoke about this during his tour called A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin. He explained that he is careful about going back to the role. He said he would not fully reject the idea. He just wants the project to feel right.
He also shared a fun twist for a possible story. In his idea, Kevin gets locked out of his own house. This time it is his son who sets the traps. Macaulay said he imagines Kevin as a single dad. He is either widowed or divorced and trying hard to raise his child. He is busy with life and missing signs that his kid is upset with him. Then the kid locks Kevin out and refuses to let him in. The traps become a way for the kid to show his feelings. The house becomes a symbol of their relationship. The story is about Kevin trying to win back his son’s love.
Macaulay said this is the closest idea he has. He repeated that he is not against returning. It just needs to be the right fit.
Home Alone made Macaulay one of the biggest child stars of the 1990s. The first movie was a huge global hit. He returned for Home Alone 2 and the series became a classic. But after that, he and the original director Chris Columbus stepped away. Chris has said that trying to remake the magic would be a mistake because the original moment cannot be recreated.
The movies that came later did not do well. Home Alone 3 and 4 failed to impress. In 2021, Disney Plus released Home Sweet Home Alone with a new cast, but fans did not enjoy it.
No one knows if Macaulay’s idea will ever become a real movie. But his willingness to think about it has given fans fresh hope and a reason to relive the charm of Home Alone again.
