Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson has officially filed for divorce from her husband, Kevin Jay Anik, after three years of marriage. According to legal documents obtained by Entertainment Weekly, Brunson cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split.

The divorce filings also clarify that both Brunson and Anik will be responsible for covering their own attorney fees. Additionally, the couple had a postnuptial agreement in place, which will determine how their assets and property are divided.

Brunson and Anik had been together for several years before they decided to tie the knot in October 2021. Despite being married to a high-profile celebrity, Anik largely stayed out of the spotlight. However, Brunson did make a rare public mention of him in 2022 when she won her first Emmy Award for Abbott Elementary.

During her acceptance speech, she expressed gratitude to the people closest to her, saying, “In case I am not back up here again, I have to thank my mom, dad, brothers, and sisters, my cousins… my wonderful husband because he’s the most supportive man I’ve ever known.” She also praised her Abbott Elementary cast and crew for helping her bring the show to life.

Later that year, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Brunson opened up about her marriage, explaining how much she appreciated Anik for allowing her to be her full, authentic self. She explained, “To be 100 percent fully me requires a lot of stuff that a lot of men do not have time for.” She continued, saying that Anik never made her feel like she had to hold herself back or dim her light. “That’s what I mean by him being the biggest support,” she said. “There is no need to dim me at all. And that allows me to love him fully and be the person that I want to be, and am meant to be.”

On the career front, Brunson continues to shine in Hollywood. She is currently starring in the fourth season of Abbott Elementary, playing the role of dedicated and quirky teacher Janine Teagues.
