Google to not allow account sign-in on pre-2010 Android devices

One can try and use a browser on the device to access their accounts.

From September 27, US-based Google will not permit users to sign in on devices that have Android Gingerbread i.e. version 2.3.7 or older.

The company announced, in a support document, “Google will no longer allow sign-in on Android devices that run Android 2.3.7 or lower starting September 27, 2021. If you sign in to your device after September 27, you may get username or password errors when you try to use Google products and services like G-mail, Youtube, and Maps.”

They have also advised that if the device has the ability to update itself to a newer Android version (3.0+) then users should do it to be able to access Google apps and other services. Google informed that the decision was made in order to maintain security for its users.

As per Stat Counter, versions of Android before the 2011-launched Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) comprised only a per cent of Android devices across the world. Hence, most of the users will remain unaffected.

As said by the search giant, certain activities can result in errors, which include performing a factory reset, change of passwords on any of your devices that logs you out of other devices as well as adding it again along with the creation of a new account on the same device.
