The Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) is soon going to become an international cargo terminal and while proceeding towards this it aims high to have increase in its revenue from international cargo movement. The new terminal is expected to have highly-developed features having modern facilities and technologies, from warehousing and storage to other facilities Cial aims to provide faster cargo management and activity.
Talking over the same S Suhas, MD,Cochin Int’l Airport Ltd, said to ANI, “CIAL is glad that Kochi airport chosen for first phase of Akasa’s services in India. Efforts by Chairman & board of directors are yielding results. CIAL hopes that Kochi airport can facilitate more services to key cities across India.”
The proposal aims to ultimately modify Cial into a major cargo destination in the long run predicting a huge increase in the amount of cargo enacting through Kochi in the future years. Currently, Cial has the capability to handle 150 tonnes of cargo in the worldwide sector daily. With the takeoff of the new terminal, it will be improved to around 250 tonnes.
“The new terminal is being constructed as part of the business diversification proposals of Cial to increase revenue share. The current terminal will be sufficient to cater to the probable increase in the cargo activity in Kochi at least for the next 15 years,” Suhas further revealed.
The facilities at the new terminal comprise a de-stuffing area, separate storage for import, export, and courier cargo, auction room, radioactive room to keep any radioactive cargo, dangerous goods room, strongroom, customs inspection hall and offices, docking bays, snack bar, airline offices, bank, flight handling documentation, etc.
Presently the domestic and international cargo terminals are functioning in two portions of the same building. After the inauguration of the cargo terminal, it will help the Domestic terminal too.
