InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, has announced the resignation of its Head – Global Sales, Vinay Malhotra, marking another senior-level exit at India’s largest airline amid an ongoing phase of leadership transition.

According to an exchange filing dated May 4, 2026, Malhotra has stepped down from his role and will be relieved effective July 3, 2026. In his resignation letter addressed to Managing Director Rahul Bhatia, he cited personal and professional reasons for his decision and indicated plans to move into an advisory role outside the aviation sector. He added that he would focus on ensuring a smooth transition, including relationship handover and succession planning, during his notice period.

Malhotra’s exit comes shortly after a major leadership development at the airline. As reported earlier by BBC, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers stepped down in March 2026, with the airline citing personal reasons for his departure. The move followed a period marked by operational disruptions, including widespread flight cancellations, bringing the airline’s leadership under scrutiny.

The latest resignation adds to a broader trend of senior-level exits at IndiGo over recent years, spanning key roles across commercial and operational functions. These developments come at a time when the airline is pursuing an ambitious expansion strategy, including strengthening its international network and building long-haul capabilities.

Despite the leadership churn, IndiGo continues to maintain its dominant position in the Indian aviation market, supported by its strong operational scale and cost leadership. However, frequent changes at the top could raise concerns around continuity and execution as the company navigates its next phase of growth.

The departure of the global sales head, following closely on the CEO’s exit, underscores the evolving leadership structure within IndiGo as it recalibrates for future expansion.
