Numerous Twitter users began campaigning for Ratan Tata, the esteemed Indian businessman and Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group, to be presented with the Bharat Ratna award. On Saturday 6th February 2021, Ratan Tata released a statement via Twitter saying that this campaign be to put an end as he is happy to contribute to India’s growth.

Ratan Tata said, “While I appreciate the sentiments expressed by a section of the social media in terms of an award, I would humbly like to request that such campaigns be discontinued.”

“Instead, I consider myself fortunate to be an Indian and to try and contribute to India’s growth and prosperity,” said Ratan Tata, in response to the social media campaign calling for the highest civilian honor for him.

The 83-year-old heir of the Tata empire is a Harvard Business School graduate who took Tata Industries to the peak of success while guiding India’s growth and employment generation.

Social media users have been tweeting since Friday 5th February demanding the Government of India to bestow the Bharat Ratna on Ratan Tata.

“Patriot Sir #RatanTata taught us about the virtue of kindness and generosity. For entire life he continues to build India great by charity and empathy. I request @PMOIndia to honour this Great Man with Highest Civilian Award,” said one Twitter user.

Another tweeted, “SIR RATAN TATA should get BHARAT RATNA from Prime Minister of India.” The hashtag #BharatRatnaForRatanTata started trending on Twitter after motivational speaker Dr Vivek Bindra appealed, “Ratan Tata believes today’s generation of entrepreneurs can take India to next level. We confer the country’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna for Ratan Tata. Join us in our campaign #BharatRatnaForRatanTata”.
