Deepika Padukone recently touched the subject of pay disparity in Bollywood and her journey into acting. During an interview with Forbes, the actress was introduced as ‘one of Bollywood’s highest paid actresses’. Reacting to her getting labelled, the diva hoped that one day it would become irrelevant.

“I mean, I hope we can get to a day where we don’t have to talk about it. The fact that we have to highlight or underline that I’m the highest paid… Hopefully, we’re getting there,” she stated.

Talking about her early days into acting, and what motivated her to take up a career as an actress, Deepika opened up on growing up in a middle class family, and wasn’t much exposed to films. However, even as a child, she “sort of knew somewhere deep down inside” that acting was her calling, despite having “no idea how” she would get there.

She recounted starting her journey with modeling, before being discovered by Farah Khan, whom she described as one of the few female Indian directors. Deepika credited the filmmaker for launching her career with Om Shanti Om in 2007, “and there’s been no looking back.”

Meanwhile, the actress was last seen in Kalki 2898 AD. She is expected to start shooting for its sequel soon, but is currently on her maternity break. Deepika welcomed her first child last year, a daughter, Dua, with her actor husband Ranveer Singh.
