On Sunday, a fresh debate over the most disputed farm bills broke out in the Rajya Sabha as the Congress party called the bill a ‘death warrant’ and also declared that it will “not sign on the death warrant”.

According to the Indian Express, on the other side of the coin, the Trinamool Congress, asked how many BJP MPs had gained a thorough understanding of the Farmers’ and Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, which was moved by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar in the Upper House.

This comes before an enormous protest by Haryana farmers, who are set to block all the roads including highways, from 12 noon to 3 pm across the state. Additional Chief Secretary (home) Vajai Vardhan has asked the officers to handle the protesters with “tact and patience”. However, he stated that “they (protesters) should not be allowed to take law in their hands and prompt action be taken against those found to be indulging in loot, arson or damage to life, property or vehicles.”

As per the reports of PTI, while the ruling exemption appears to have the numbers despite strong opposition from the Congress and other parties to clear the Bills, some main BJP leaders are said to be in touch with various regional outfits to get support from their Upper House members for these bills.
