Amid rising COVID-19 cases, the Mumbai Police has imposed Section 144, restricting the movement and gathering in the city starting from September 17 midnight. The movement is restricted in areas that come under the control of the Commissioner of Police.
“.. Mumbai city continues to be threatened with the spread of COVID-19, it is considered expedient to issue prohibitory order for restricting any presence or movement of one or more persons in public places or gathering of any sort anywhere, including religious places…” the order stated.
“Movement of one person or more persons will be prohibited within the city except for the listed emergency and non-emergency service,” Mumbai Police said. These include
a) Food, vegetable, milk supplies, ration, grocery stores,
b) Hospitals and other healthcare facilities
c) Telephone and internet services;
d) Oil and energy-related services, banking;
e) IT and IT-enabled services, media, ports;
f) e-commerce activities, food delivery;
g) Drinking water supply and maintenance;
h) Godowns, warehouse, trucks, tempos and manpower related to the aforementioned services.
Activities that are exempted in the Mission Begin Again orders, dated August 30 will not be restricted, according to the order released by the Commissioner of Police, Greater Mumbai.
The order stated that the restrictions will end at 24 hours on September 30 unless withdrawn earlier.
