Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has been officially named the successful bidder for a significant new transmission project under the Tariff-based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process. The project, part of the “Additional Transmission System for Evacuation of Power from Bhadla-III PS as Part of Rajasthan REZ Phase-III Scheme (20 GW),” involves the development of inter-state transmission systems on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis. The Letter of Intent was awarded to PGCIL on August 12, 2024.
This critical infrastructure project is set to augment the transformation capacity at the existing Bhadla-III substation in Rajasthan, including the extension of associated bays. The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the capabilities of the national grid to handle the increased load from new renewable energy sources, particularly solar power, being developed in the region.
The Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Phase-III Scheme aims to bolster the state’s position as a leading provider of renewable energy in India, with an expected capacity of 20 GW upon completion. PGCIL’s role in constructing and operating this additional transmission system is crucial for ensuring efficient and reliable power evacuation from solar parks to consumers across the country.
