Blake Lively is gearing up to hit the big screen again with the movie adaptation of It Ends With Us. In this romantic drama, she will star as Lily Bloom, alongside Justin Baldoni and Brandon Sklenar. At the film’s premiere, Lively shared a special tidbit: her husband, Ryan Reynolds, contributed to the movie by writing an important scene.
Talking to E! News at the event, Lively revealed, “The iconic rooftop scene was actually written by my husband.” She added with a smile, “Nobody knew that until now.”
The scene in question is the memorable rooftop meeting between the lead characters, Lily and Ryle. This moment, described in Colleen Hoover’s book, is a fan favorite. Lively also mentioned how Reynolds is involved in all her projects, saying, “He works on everything I do, and I work on everything he does. So his successes and celebrations are mine, and mine are his.”
The couple recently collaborated on Deadpool & Wolverine, with Reynolds reprising his role as Deadpool and Lively appearing as Lady Deadpool. They also worked together on John Krasinski’s film IF, where Reynolds acted in front of the camera and Lively voiced a character named Octopus.
Regarding the initial controversy over the casting of It Ends With Us, Baldoni, who is also directing the film, had a positive outlook. He said, “It didn’t really bother me because the fact that people were talking about it means there’s interest. If nobody talks about your adaptation, then you have a problem.”
Baldoni was persuaded to take on the role of Ryle in the movie by Hoover herself, who suggested, “Have you ever thought about acting in the movie? Maybe Ryle? I think you could do it.”
It Ends With Us is set to premiere in theaters on August 9, 2024.
