Anyone But You, this generation’s most beloved romantic comedy, will be available on Netflix on April 23. Despite a slow opening weekend, the film, starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, went on to become one of the most successful R-rated romantic comedies of the recent decade.

In a world of predictable comedies and zero-stakes dramas, the film became a true sensation and surprise because of unprecedented word-of-mouth, excellent viral marketing via TikTok, and the amazing enjoyment Sweeney and Powell had while promoting and following its release.

The plot is mostly based on William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, and it follows Bea and Ben as their emotional attraction changes dramatically after a spectacular first date. Surprisingly, they meet again at an Australian wedding and end up acting like a couple. The supporting actors include Darren Barnet, Bryan Brown, Hadley Robinson, Alexandra Shipp, GaTa, Michelle Hurd, Dermot Mulroney, and Rachel Griffiths.

Sweeney stated in a recent feature that Powell and she were receiving multiple ideas to collaborate again every day, and that a sequel could perhaps materialise. In an interview with GQ, she stated that they had been bouncing around a variety of concepts. Their primary goal is to provide our viewers with new and intriguing content while also stretching their creative boundaries.

Sweeney spoke with Variety at SXSW about Anyone But You’s unexpected success. She claimed that just thinking about it gave her the willies. The performer expressed her heartfelt gratitude and joy at the tremendous support for the picture.

The charm of going to the movies is that it allows you to forget about everything else, immerse yourself in the emotions that the filmmakers hoped for while creating the picture, and then walk out of the theatre wanting to break into song, dance, and fall in love.

The picture grossed an amazing $207.6 million worldwide throughout its theatrical run, owing in large part to its strong success in multiplexes. Anyone But You will be available on Netflix starting April 23, 2024. Until then, you can see the film on Prime Video, which is available for rental.
