Shares of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) are in focus as key developments around India’s indigenous fighter jet programmes and future defence partnerships came into spotlight. The stock was trading at ₹4,331.60, down marginally by ₹20 or 0.46% on the NSE.
The attention comes after Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh indicated that India is set to soon issue the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme — the country’s ambitious fifth-generation fighter jet initiative. The RFP is expected to be issued to shortlisted private sector bidders, marking a significant step forward in the programme’s execution.
Speaking at the ANI National Security Summit 2.0, Singh said that the AMCA procurement process is already underway and is expected to gain momentum once the RFP is released. He highlighted that the project is aimed at developing an entirely indigenous fifth-generation fighter aircraft, in collaboration with domestic industry players, alongside public sector entities like HAL.
In addition to the AMCA programme, India is also exploring partnerships for the development of sixth-generation fighter jets. Singh noted that given the scale of investment required for such advanced platforms, global collaborations would be essential. The government has already made overtures to existing international partners, signalling India’s intent to participate in next-generation fighter programmes.
“Given the nature of the investment required, it will have to be a partnership. We have made overtures to both of these ongoing partnerships and are evaluating the response,” Singh said, adding that India remains open to collaboration opportunities for sixth-generation platforms.
The defence secretary further emphasised that India is simultaneously progressing on multiple fronts, including procurement of 4.5-generation aircraft, development of the AMCA, and advancement of unmanned combat aerial vehicle programmes involving DRDO and HAL.
The developments place HAL at the centre of India’s long-term defence manufacturing roadmap, given its key role in aircraft development, manufacturing, and integration. Any acceleration in the AMCA programme or potential international collaborations could have significant implications for the company’s future order pipeline and technological capabilities.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is India’s premier aerospace and defence company, engaged in the design, development, manufacture, and maintenance of aircraft, helicopters, engines, and avionics systems.
