In the last 24 hours, India has recorded its biggest spike in the daily number of cases. The country’s tally rose to 6,97,413 after 24,248 fresh cases were recorded on Sunday. The death toll has also increased to 19,693 with 425 patients succumbing to the Coronavirus infection in a single day.

There has been a great improvement in the recovery rate (60.85%) as well. The total number of patients recovered stands at 4,24,432, including 15,350 recoveries in a single day. As per the figures released by the health ministry, the country currently has 2,53,287 active cases. The gap between the active number of cases and the recovered patients stands at 1,71,145.

Currently, there are about 1100 labs providing Coronavirus testing facilities across the country. 786 labs come under the government sector while the rest 314 come under the private sector.

On Sunday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that it has not set an August 15 deadline for the vaccine to be available across the nation. Its aim is to complete the vaccine trials quickly, similar to vaccine candidates in other countries as well, considering the urgent need to control the spread of Coronavirus, added ICMR.

India overtook Russia after its tally crossed the 6.9 lakh mark and became the third worst-hit country in the world.

According to the tally kept the Johns Hopkins University, Coronavirus has infected over 1.14 crore people and taken 5.3 lakh lives across the globe.
