On Saturday, the Indian Air Force (IAF) evacuated 629 Indian people in three C-17 aircraft as tensions between Ukraine and Russia escalated. The Indian Air Force (IAF) flew the refugees from Poland, Romania, and Slovakia to Hindan Air Base. So far, the Indian Air Force has undertaken ten flights, evacuating 2,056 Indians and transporting 26 tonnes of relief supplies to these nations.
In addition, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a special IndiGo aircraft carrying 229 Indian people landed in Delhi from Suceava, Romania. Over the next 24 hours, 16 aircraft are planned to arrive in India, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
So far, 48 flights have landed in India as part of Operation Ganga, bringing the total number of individuals evacuated from Ukraine to more than 20,000. The Indian Air Force was directed by the Centre this week to assist in the rescue of nationals from Ukraine and its neighbouring countries as part of Operation Ganga.
The Indian Air Force has prepared a fleet of C-17 transport planes for Operation Ganga. C-17 Globemaster and IL-76 cargo planes from the United States are the most capable of flying long distances with up to 400 people. The IAF’s C-17 aircraft flew to Romania on March 2 to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. One flight delivered 6 tonnes of cargo to Romania, while the other 9 tonnes to Slovakia.
