Russian equities closed higher on Friday, with the MOEX Russia Index up 2.11%. Gains were led by oil and gas, metals and mining, and electric utilities sectors.

Top performers included Moskovskiy Kreditnyi Bank, up 5.38% to 8.17, TATNEFT, up 4.49% to 602.50, and TATNEFT Pref, rising 4.47% to 561.

The biggest decliners were PhosAgro, down 0.17% to 6,570, ADS Ozon Holdings, down 0.05% to 3,695, and GDR ROS AGRO, which stayed flat at 1,083.80. Overall, 186 stocks rose, 46 fell, and 17 remained unchanged.

The Russian Volatility Index fell 5.15% to 35.73.

In commodities, February gold futures rose 1.27% to 4,255.80 per troy ounce. Crude oil slipped, with January WTI at 58.48 per barrel and February Brent at 62.32 per barrel.

On the currency front, the ruble strengthened slightly. USD/RUB fell 0.44% to 77.61 and EUR/RUB declined 0.52% to 89.91. The US Dollar Index futures dipped slightly to 99.43.
