Black Phone 2 ruled theaters across North America this Halloween weekend. October had been pretty dull for movies, but this sequel gave the box office a strong push by taking the top spot. It is now very close to beating the worldwide earnings of a popular Final Destination film.

The movie has been in theaters for only two weeks before Halloween, and by the end of its third weekend, it crossed the one hundred million dollar mark worldwide. This weekend alone, it jumped ahead of The Accountant 2 and The Naked Gun. It is also less than one million dollars away from passing the global earnings of Materialists, which starred Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans.

Over this Halloween weekend, Black Phone 2 earned eight point three million dollars in North America, placing it at number one. From overseas markets, it has made around forty three point two five million dollars in seventeen days. With this, the worldwide box office total has crossed one hundred five million dollars. The film is now on its way to being in the top thirty highest earning movies of the year worldwide.

Right now the numbers look like this. North America has contributed sixty one point eight million dollars. International markets have brought in forty three point two million dollars. Together the worldwide total is one hundred five million dollars.

Black Phone 2 is now close to beating the original Final Destination movie. The first Final Destination came out in the year two thousand and became a big horror hit. It earned one hundred twelve point eight million dollars worldwide. Black Phone 2 is less than ten million dollars behind that number. If it beats it, the sequel will officially join the list of strong modern horror hits that can stand next to the big classics of the two thousands era.

Passing Final Destination would not just be about money. It would show a shift from an old iconic horror franchise to a new one that defines this decade.

Black Phone 2 is directed by Scott Derrickson and stars Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, and Jeremy Davies.
