Justin Bieber has been defended by fans after receiving criticism over his response—or perceived lack thereof—following the assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.

On Instagram last night (14 September), the Canadian singer shared a photo of a frame from the home he shares with wife Hailey Rhode and their son, Jack Blues. The frame listed ten family “values,” including “We value Rest as Worship,” “We value HEALTH and physical wellness as an act of stewardship,” and “We value HUMAN beings and believe in their dignity and eternal worth.”

While some praised Bieber for highlighting his Christian values, others criticized him for not mentioning Kirk, who was shot and killed last week while speaking at Utah Valley University. The suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, has been arrested.

One critic wrote: “Mention the assassination of Charlie Kirk, who left behind a beautiful wife Erika and two young kids. How do you explain that loss to a 3-year-old?” Others urged Bieber to “SAY HIS BEAUTIFUL NAME!!!!!! CHARLIE KIRK!!!!!!!!!! OUR BROTHER IN CHRIST!!!!!!!!”

Some commentators expressed disappointment that Bieber had previously spoken out about George Floyd and BLM, asking why he hadn’t addressed Kirk’s death.

However, many of Bieber’s fans rushed to his defense, questioning why an entertainer should be expected to comment on every political matter.

One fan asked: “Why are there people on Instagram going through psychosis begging Justin Bieber to talk about Charlie Kirk?” Another added: “Maybe he has prayed to God for Kirk’s family, maybe he hasn’t. The point is, you do not have the right to judge.”

Others highlighted Bieber’s nationality as a factor, noting: “Justin Bieber is Canadian. Why does he have to speak on an American social media influencer? Y’all are nuts.”
