Hollywood star Brad Pitt is mourning a devastating loss. His mother, Jane Pitt, has passed away at the age of 84. The cause of her death has not yet been shared publicly. The sad news was confirmed by People. Jane is survived by her husband William, their three children—Brad, Doug, and Julie—and her grandchildren.
Doug’s daughter, Sydney Pitt, took to Instagram to honor her grandmother with a heartfelt tribute. Alongside several photos of Jane spending time with family, Sydney wrote an emotional message, calling her “sweet grammy.” In her post, Sydney shared, “We were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier.”
Sydney remembered her grandmother as someone who lived with immense kindness and compassion. She described Jane as having “the biggest heart” and said she “cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked.” She continued, “I don’t know how we move forward without her. But I know she’s still here in every brushstroke, every kind gesture, every hummingbird. She was love in its purest form. We were truly blessed to have her to love on growing up and I know she lives on through each of us.”
Jane Etta Pitt was born in Oklahoma and worked as a school counselor. She and her husband, William, raised their family in Springfield, Missouri, where Brad grew up with his siblings Doug and Julie. Over the years, Jane often supported her son at major events. She was seen alongside Brad at red carpet premieres, including the 2012 Academy Awards and the 2014 premiere of Unbroken, which was directed by Brad’s then-wife Angelina Jolie.
Brad, now 61, has not yet issued a public statement about his mother’s passing.
