Leonardo DiCaprio says turning 50 has changed the way he sees life. In a conversation with director Paul Thomas Anderson for Esquire’s Mavericks of Hollywood issue, he reflected on his career, his inspirations, and how he approaches life now. Despite reaching 50, DiCaprio says he feels emotionally no older than 35.
The actor explained that turning 50 has given him a desire to be more honest and not waste time. He admires his mother, who always speaks her mind and never pretends to be someone she’s not. DiCaprio says he tries to bring the same honesty into his work and personal life, even if it means risking disagreements or the end of relationships.
DiCaprio began his career on television and earned his first Academy Award nomination for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape in 1993. Over the years, he has received six Best Actor nominations, winning for his role as Hugh Glass in The Revenant.
Next, DiCaprio will star in One Battle After Another, alongside Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro, and Chase Infinity. The film is set to hit theaters on September 26, 2025.
