Fans of The Handmaid’s Tale are buzzing with excitement and curiosity over a possible surprise cameo by Taylor Swift in the show’s final season. The rumors started when Episode 9 featured Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version) in a dramatic scene. In the same moment, a mysterious female character appeared briefly—only seen from behind. The way she walked and the way the camera focused on her without revealing her face got Swifties wondering: was that Taylor herself?
Viewers quickly began to speculate that using Taylor’s re-recorded song and showing a mystery woman at the same time couldn’t be just coincidence. Theories spread fast, especially because Taylor is known for hidden meanings and clever surprises.
When the show’s creator, Bruce Miller, was asked directly about the rumors, he gave a vague and playful answer. He told Variety, “I can’t say anything. I’m not allowed to say anything.” When the interviewer joked that this only made things more suspicious, Miller replied, “All right, I’m good at making things worse—that’s how I make all of my money.” Though he didn’t confirm anything, he also didn’t deny it. This teasing tone has only made fans more convinced that Taylor might have made a secret appearance.
Apart from the Taylor Swift mystery, Bruce Miller also explained how the show’s ending had been planned from the beginning. He pointed out that the final scene—where June starts recording her story—mirrors the opening moment of the very first episode. In that pilot, you can hear her click on a tape recorder. Miller confirmed that this audio was always there, not added later as a trick. It was part of the long-term plan to bring the story full circle.
In the finale, June (played by Elisabeth Moss) begins telling her story from the ruins of the Waterfords’ house. This ties directly back to her voiceover in the first episode, showing that The Handmaid’s Tale has come full circle.
Although the series has ended, the story of Gilead isn’t over. Hulu is now working on a new show called The Testaments, based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale. Bruce Miller is leading the new project, and Elisabeth Moss will be involved as a producer. While June’s journey is finished, The Testaments will show what happens in the world of Gilead next.
