Jennifer Lopez is facing a new legal battle after allegedly sharing paparazzi photos of herself on social media without obtaining the necessary copyright licenses. The controversy centers around images taken before the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, specifically outside the Amazon MGM Studios x Vanity Fair Party at Bar Marmont in Los Angeles on January 4.
Photographer Edwin Blanco and photo agency BackGrid USA filed two federal lawsuits against Lopez on May 17, claiming co-ownership of the images. According to their attorney, Peter Perkowski, Lopez posted these photos on her Instagram and X accounts the following day, January 5, without permission. This unauthorized sharing allegedly led to widespread reposting by fans and fashion brands.
BackGrid and Blanco reportedly reached out to Lopez’s team shortly after the incident, and both parties verbally agreed to a financial settlement. However, Lopez’s side did not finalize the deal in writing or complete any payment.
If the lawsuit succeeds, Lopez could face damages up to \$150,000 per image and \$300,000 per outlet. This isn’t the first time Lopez has faced such claims; in 2019, she was sued for posting a paparazzi photo with her then-partner Alex Rodriguez. That case was voluntarily dismissed in 2020.
