Jennifer Lopez has opened up candidly about the guilt she felt as a working mother raising her twins, Emme and Max. After her high-profile divorce from Ben Affleck, Lopez threw herself into a busy schedule filled with acting roles and music projects.
In a recent interview with Spanish publication El País, the 55-year-old singer and actress reflected on the challenges she faced trying to juggle her career and motherhood. She admitted that her twins, now 17, might have felt her absence at times due to her demanding work life.
Lopez explained that the feeling of “mom guilt” is something many working mothers experience—the constant internal struggle about whether they’re giving enough to their kids. “I was a working mom when they were little. They probably didn’t get as much of me as they wanted, right? Because when you’re a working mom — and so many working moms out there know this — you always have that guilt,” she shared.
There were moments when she wondered if she should have stayed home more or even quit working entirely. “I should have been around more. I shouldn’t have left at all. I should’ve just stayed home,” she confessed. But Lopez also acknowledged that despite these doubts, she did her best to raise her children under the circumstances.
Lopez’s twins were often with her during important career milestones, traveling alongside her on world tours and attending shows like American Idol. Reflecting on those times, Lopez now sees the experience as meaningful and valuable for the whole family. “Looking back on it, it was an amazing experience. And I was glad that I was able to take them around the world. They were on tour with me. They would go to American Idol with me,” she said.
Recently, Lopez celebrated Emme and Max’s 17th birthdays with a heartfelt tribute on social media, emphasizing how grateful she is for the time they shared together—even amid the chaos of a busy career.
