Buckingham Palace has officially responded after Prince Harry recently opened up about changes to his security arrangements. In a heartfelt interview with the BBC, Harry, also known as the Duke of Sussex, spoke about how he wants to mend his relationship with the royal family. At the same time, he shared how disappointed he felt after losing a court case about his personal protection in the UK.
Here’s the background: After Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from their royal roles and moved to the United States in 2020, the special security that used to protect him in the UK was taken away. He argued in court that he still deserves top-level security by default because of his royal status and the risks involved—but the court disagreed.
Since moving away, Harry’s relationship with the rest of the royal family has become tense and distant. One major consequence of that fallout was the removal of his security privileges. Without guaranteed protection, Harry says it’s just not safe to bring Meghan and their children back to the UK.
He expressed this sadness during the interview, saying:
“I can’t imagine a situation where I’d bring my wife and kids back to the UK right now. And what they’re going to miss out on because of that is… well, pretty much everything.”
In another headline-making moment, Harry also reportedly claimed that his father, King Charles, has been avoiding conversations with him about the security issue—even while dealing with his own health problems.
Despite all this, Harry made it clear that he still loves his country deeply, saying that what certain people have done doesn’t affect his overall feelings for the UK.
In response to all this, Buckingham Palace gave a firm statement. They said that the matter of Harry’s security has already been looked at multiple times by the courts—and every time, the decision has been the same.
A Palace spokesperson said:
“All of these matters have been examined thoroughly and carefully by the courts, and every time, the result has been the same.”
Sources also revealed that Harry has asked King Charles not to get involved in the issue directly.
