Timothée Chalamet will be honored with an Italian award for his brilliant performances in Dune and A Complete Unknown

Timothée Chalamet will be honored with the coveted David di Donatello Award for Cinematic Excellence at the 70th edition of the Italian cinema awards, recognizing his outstanding performances in Dune and the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown. The actor is set to attend the ceremony on May 7th to receive the accolade, celebrating his remarkable screen presence and contribution to international cinema.

Piera Detassis, president of the Italian Cinema Academy, praised Chalamet’s unique blend of European roots and American upbringing, calling him “one of the most unpredictable and talented protagonists of international cinema today.” Detassis emphasized his versatility as both an auteur performer and a trendsetting star.

“The Academy is delighted to award him the David for Cinematic Excellence, which is meant to be an acknowledgement of the great actor of quality and innovative films and, at the same time, of the global protagonist,” Detassis said.

Chalamet first rose to global prominence with his breakthrough role in Call Me By Your Name, directed by Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, earning an Oscar nomination for Best Actor at just 22 years old. This year, he has again been nominated in the same category for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.

His strong connection to Italy is evident in his frequent appearances at the Venice Film Festival in 2021 and 2022, as well as attending Italian premieres for Dune: Part I and Bones and All.

The David di Donatello Awards ceremony will open on May 7th, where Chalamet will be celebrated as one of cinema’s brightest and most innovative talents.
