Tom Hardy, known for his iconic role as the alien symbiote Venom, recently set the record straight about a previous comment he made regarding the potential for a Spider-Man and Venom crossover. The actor, who’s become synonymous with the character, clarified that he never claimed that a Venom-Spider-Man collaboration was nixed due to “studio politics.” Instead, Hardy explained that his words were taken out of context, especially when talking about how his children would have loved to see the two superheroes team up on screen.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hardy addressed the confusion, stating that his original comment was about explaining to his kids that their two favorite characters—Venom and Spider-Man—couldn’t appear together in a film, and how that was disappointing. He explained, “It didn’t happen, and that’s the truth.” While reflecting on his time working in the Spider-Man universe, he mentioned how close they came to making it happen, especially since he was already involved in the Spider-Man movie world, but ultimately, the collaboration never materialized.

Hardy clarified that there were no major behind-the-scenes politics stopping the crossover—it simply “didn’t happen.” The actor was likely referring to Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), where he made a brief cameo in the post-credits scene as Eddie Brock, aka Venom. Despite the excitement around the possibility of a crossover, Hardy emphasized that it was just one of those things that didn’t come together as planned.

As for the Venom films, Hardy confirmed that the trilogy is now complete. The actor starred as Venom in three films: Venom (2018), Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), and Venom: The Last Dance (2024), wrapping up his character’s arc. Even though fans might still dream of a Spider-Man and Venom team-up, it’s clear from Hardy’s comments that the idea, though close, never officially made it to the big screen.
