Ed Sheeran and Jimmy Fallon recently took to the NYC subway for an unexpected performance that left fans amused and surprised. In a fun segment on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon aired on April 8, the two A-listers embraced their teenage emo phase by disguising themselves in black wigs, piercings, sunglasses, and all-black outfits. Under the name “Frat Poison,” they serenaded the crowd with a cover of Chappell Roan’s hit Pink Pony Club, which caught the attention of subway-goers, causing many to stop and listen.

As the crowd grew, Fallon eventually revealed their identities to the surprised fans, saying, “I’m Jimmy Fallon. This is Ed Sheeran right now!” The crowd erupted in applause, and Sheeran then performed his new song, Azizam, for the subway audience.

Meanwhile, Sheeran’s new track has sparked some controversy online. A TikToker, known as Zachary or The Swiftologist, criticized Sheeran’s music style, claiming that his songs, including Azizam, Shivers, Bad Habits, and Shape of You, all sounded too similar. He went as far as comparing Sheeran’s music to heroin, calling it addictive but ultimately “soulless” because of its formulaic nature and lack of evolution since 2016.

Sheeran responded to the criticism with a simple “lol” in the comments, which was followed by Zachary doubling down on his opinion and apologizing to the singer, saying, “King, I’m so sorry. But we need to come up with something else.”

This exchange between Sheeran and the TikToker quickly caught attention, and many were taken aback to see the Grammy-winning artist engaging with the criticism in such a lighthearted manner.
