The ER cast showed their strong bond when George Clooney made his Broadway debut on Thursday, April 3. Clooney, who starred in the stage adaptation of his Oscar-nominated film Good Night, and Good Luck (2005), was supported by his former ER co-stars Julianna Margulies, Anthony Edwards, and Noah Wyle. Wyle shared his pride for Clooney on social media, posting a black-and-white group photo from the event with a heartfelt caption: “So very proud of my friend. So very happy for the reunion.”
Margulies also revealed a charming detail about her ongoing friendship with Clooney. Despite the years since ER aired, they still address each other by their iconic character names, signing personal emails with “Love, Carol” or “Doug,” a nod to their beloved roles as Carol Hathaway and Doug Ross.
Reflecting on her time on ER, Margulies spoke about her emotional exit from the series in 2000 after season 6. One of the most memorable moments for her was the surprise reunion between Carol and Doug, which aired after Clooney had left the show. She shared that the scene, accompanied by emotional music, always brings her to tears when she stumbles across it while channel surfing. Margulies recalled her mother’s reaction to the reunion, saying she screamed when she saw the characters together again. “It was the right ending for them because Carol and Doug were destined to be together,” Margulies added, emphasizing the significance of their reunion in the series’ narrative.
