Simone further revealed the heartbreak of the situation, sharing that Kilmer was all set to attend the event, but tragically, just as the driver was heading out to pick him up, news of his death broke. “I know PR was on the phone, trying to get a hold of the driver, bringing Val for his 7:30 p.m. red carpet arrival. The story and news of his death were reported, literally at the same, exact time.”

The Beverly Hills Film Festival, which opened on the same day as Kilmer’s passing, marked its 25th anniversary.
