Sydney Sweeney is stepping up her game in Hollywood, not just as an actress, but as a producer as well. Known for her standout roles in Euphoria and Anyone But You, Sweeney is now set to lead and produce the upcoming thriller I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl, which is being developed at Warner Bros. The film is based on a short story by Joe Cote that originally gained attention on Reddit. Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth, known for his work on Forrest Gump and Dune, will adapt the story for the big screen.
The plot of I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl follows a drifter who pretends to be a missing girl in order to deceive and rob her family. However, things take a dark turn when the drifter realizes she has made a huge mistake. The film will be produced under Sweeney’s own production company, Fifty-Fifty Films, and will be co-produced with Roy Lee and Steven Schneider of Vertigo, alongside Trevor Engelson and Aaron Folbe from Underground.
Sweeney has been making waves in Hollywood as a producer, taking a very hands-on approach to her projects. She served as an executive producer on Anyone But You, which was a major hit, grossing over $220 million globally. She also led the production of Immaculate, a horror thriller that premiered at SXSW.
In addition to I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl, Sweeney is working on several other exciting projects as a producer. She is producing Scandalous!, where she will portray Hollywood legend Kim Novak, and she’s also involved in a biopic about female boxing champion Christy Martin, directed by David Michôd. Furthermore, she’s an executive producer for The Housemaid, where she stars alongside Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar.
Sweeney’s growing influence in Hollywood doesn’t stop there. She will also appear in Echo Valley, an upcoming thriller for Apple TV+, featuring Julianne Moore, Kyle MacLachlan, and Domhnall Gleeson.
