Bank of America customers experienced widespread problems on Wednesday, with many reporting issues accessing their accounts online and being alarmed to see their balances showing as zero. Some customers also reported being unable to withdraw cash from ATMs.
The issues were first detected around noon Eastern Time, according to Downdetector, a website that tracks outages and service disruptions. By mid-afternoon, nearly 5,000 users had reported problems, with the outage impacting major cities such as New York, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle.
Customers have expressed concern and frustration on social media, with many reporting that their balances appeared as zero. “Five accounts show zero balance, over 20K,” one customer shared on Downdetector, while another wrote, “There’s some kind of glitch on the Bank of America website that shows $0 in all accounts… that was extremely stressful for a second there.”
Bank of America has yet to release an official statement addressing the cause of the outage, leaving many customers anxious about the status of their accounts and when the service will be fully restored. The bank’s systems reportedly continued to display errors late into the afternoon, affecting account access and ATM services for many users across the country.
