Rumi Carter, the 6-year-old daughter of music icons Beyoncé and Jay-Z, has begun to carve out her own path in the music industry alongside her older sister, Blue Ivy. Rumi, who shares her birthday with her twin brother Sir, recently made her musical debut on her mother’s latest album, “Cowboy Carter,” featuring on the track ‘Protector.’
Born on June 13, 2017, Rumi and Sir quickly became a source of fascination for fans of the power couple. Jay-Z later revealed the inspiration behind their daughter’s name, citing their admiration for the poet Rumi. As for their son, his name was decided upon after his birth.
Beyoncé’s album “Cowboy Carter” features a diverse lineup of artists, ranging from country legends like Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson to emerging talents like Tanner Adell and Shaboozey. Notably, Rumi’s contribution to the album adds a familial touch, with her sweet voice introducing the heartfelt acoustic ballad, ‘Protector.’
In ‘Protector,’ Beyoncé’s tender expression of maternal love shines through as she sings, “I will lead you down that road if you lose your way / Born to be a protector / Even though I know someday you’re gonna shine on your own / I will be your projector.”
Speculation about Rumi’s involvement in the album began when she was given her own artist page on streaming platforms just a day before the album’s release. This isn’t the first time Beyoncé has collaborated with her children; in 2019, she featured Blue Ivy on ‘Brown Skin Girl’ from her album “The Lion King: The Gift,” where Blue Ivy was credited as a songwriter. This collaboration led to Blue Ivy becoming the second-youngest Grammy winner after the song won Best Music Video.
“Cowboy Carter” arrived less than two months after Beyoncé’s surprise release of two singles, “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages,” during the Super Bowl. Beyoncé revealed that the album was a response to feeling ‘unwelcomed’ after a performance with the Dixie Chicks at the 2016 Country Music Association Awards.
